WHAT ARE THE SEVERAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COLOMBIA AND U.S.?

When we try to compare American culture with Colombian culture, we found that they are completely different kinds of humans and share on common aspirations and desires. We can see that American culture includes both conservative and liberal elements, military and scientific competitiveness, political structures, risk taking and free expression, materialist and moral elements. For that reason, I will try to compare with Colombian culture in technology, food, festivals, drink, sex, health, family, sports, education and security because in these topics they are so different. 

The culture of the United States of America is a Western culture, it has been very important, because U.S. development is more evident than Colombia development. When we talk about technology, U.S. has a very well organized society. United States people are more open- minded and they are ready to changes. Americans are leadership role in technology because their industry is bigger than Colombia and they have more money to invest in factories and business expansion.    

Americans encourage education and security because they are the best in these topics. About education you can choose between public and private education because both are excellent but in Colombia it is not. In Colombia if you do not have money, you will have to try to enter to public university but before you have to take a test and if you will not pass you have no right to study in public university. In other words, education in Colombia is poorer than in U.S.    

About the security, U.S. has the policy that they prefer help them friends to attack his enemies. They have military technology and they do not need anyone´s permission to make military operations. That thing always brings benefits economic for his country because Americans are always thinking about money. But in Colombia, we have to ask for permission to U.S. for make some military operation and we have no money for make it alone.

One big difference between U.S. and Colombia is food, because in Colombia is better than in U.S. In U.S. you just eat fast food like Hamburger, hot dog, pizza and Chinese food while in Colombia you can eat “ajiaco”, “mondongo”, “bandeja paisa”, “lechona”, “tamal”, “sancocho de gallina”, “caldo de Costilla”, “arroz con pollo”, “cazuela de mariscos”, “buñuelo” and “pan de bono”. When we talk about food, I would not leave Colombia.              

The mixture and variety of the different ethnic traditions in Colombia has developed unique styles of music such as “Cumbia” and “Vallenato” and different dancing expressions such as “Salsa” and “Bambuco”. Colombia also has many festivals and carnivals throughout the year, most of these celebrate religious traditions. Some important carnivals include: Barranquilla´s Carnival, Cali´s Carnival, Medellin´s Carnival, Manizales´ Carnival, Pasto's 'Carnival of Blacks and Whites', 'Independence day' every July 20th, 'Easter', and 'Christmas'. U.S. has fewer festivals because they just have Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween, Independence Day, Father´s day, Mother´s day, Labor Day and valentine´s day.     

 


Despite certain consistent ideological principles like individualism, egalitarianism, and faith in freedom and democracy, American culture has a variety of expressions due to its geographical scale and demographic diversity but the best are the parties. When we talk about parties U.S. people is more fun than Colombian people because they have less prejudice. You can dance, get drunk, get lucky and have sex in the same night. All kind of things you can do because they do not care what you do; they just want that to have fun with their beautiful women, their strong drinks or cocktails.

About sex, in U.S., they are more freedom and they have no problem with who, where, how and what you want. In Colombia you cannot tell “I just want to have a sex”, you must talk with woman for three or four months and then you can propose to make love.        

When we talk about sports, Colombians have developed a special passion for the Football (soccer). In U.S., soccer is the fifth or six sport in the country because they have more sports like football, hockey, baseball, cars, basketball, etc. Sports are better in U.S. than Colombia for many reasons, for example you can drink some glasses of beer while you see the match or you have more variety of sports for choose. 
    

About the family, In U.S., young people and parents are under many types of stress. Pressure from parents, changing family conditions, mobility of families, unemployment and problems at school may lead to use of alcohol or drugs, the refusal to attend school, running away from home, teenage pregnancies or juvenile delinquency, and as a result of this, there is no unity in the family. Colombian families are the same but kids spend much time watching television, listening to music or playing computer games. Many youths should work part-time on weekends or after school at fast-food restaurants, baby-sit for neighbors, hold delivery jobs or work in stores but they aren´t interested. Or may be In Colombia this youths should be involved in community service organizations or are active in church and religious-group activities but they prefer make it easier. 

Colombia and U.S. has many differences but they are beautiful countries and both have amazing cultures that we all need to know. If I would have to choose between American culture and Colombian culture, I would choose U.S. culture because they are more independent and free. I want to go to U.S. someday because their culture is more interesting than Colombia culture in many topics. I would like to know their stadiums, Vegas, their beaches, their parties, their universities, their famous places and I want to meet American women to have a good time.
